The Living Exposed website is now online. Several portions remain under construction and inaccessible, but others are fully functional. An “unofficial official” launch is scheduled for December 11th, 2009!
As of now, a homepage, Lights Out, Fieldnotes, and Shoot are all online and functional. Here’s a quick rundown on what those are:
The home page (http://livingexposed.com) for the website aggregates and presents material from throughout the project, presenting and linking to other sources both within and beyond Living Exposed. Its purpose is to give a quick overview of what is going on at any given time, and it is presented with roll-over effect on the text (from light to dark) that is meant to privilege the embedded images at all other times.
Lights Out (http://livingexposed.com/lightsout.html) presents the completed work of the project, including series of photographic stills (Frames) as well as short films (Flicks). The viewing environment (the screen) is darkened in order to better the viewing experience of these final products. Another cool feature is that all still photographs have an added functionality that displays additional data, such as ISO, shutter speed, and aperture on roll-over.
Fieldnotes (http://livingexposed.com) is a compilation of writings and media that provide additional context for the photography presented on Living Exposed. Their purpose is to add another layer of insight to the visual imagery created, to the projects themselves, and to the intersection of life and photography. The Fieldnotes include both project-focused collections, filed under Project Papers, as well as others addressing more general topics (Looseleaf for photography overall and In the Developer for Living Exposed more specifically and with an eye for the future).
Shoot (http://livingexposed.com) is a compilation of writings and media that examine the technical and practical side of photography on Living Exposed. From start to finish, the overall objective is to explore, explain, and practice the fundamentals of image-making. Shoot includes equipment and gear reviews (filed under Reviews), a general news category for Living Exposed (News), as well as an in-the-works section entitled Fundamentals that will concentrate on exploring and presenting the basics of photography to anyone who takes an interest in how it can all be done.
Finally, a new initiative has been announced and is scheduled to take place on the Big Island of Hawai’i in January. Called EXPOSURE, it will bring together a small group of photographers eager to challenge themselves and ready to share their efforts and results with the world. All very exciting stuff.
For more thoughts on the development of the website and project specifically, read this recent post in Fieldnotes. And when you take a look around, be sure to let us know what you think! We’d love your feedback as we continue to direct our efforts and design the site.
